The LASA Orchestra provides learning and performing opportunities for students of all levels from LASA. Gaining experience as a musician, building strong relationships with your peers, and growing as a person are just a few of the benefits of joining LASA Orchestra.
The program has been consistently growing over the past few years, proud to be one of the biggest and most successful High School orchestras in the Austin area consisting of five orchestras:
-
Philharmonic,
-
Chamber,
-
Concert,
-
Camerata and
-
Honors.
All of the orchestra classes enjoy opportunities to perform for their peers, and make music with friends. The orchestras’ talent and hard work is showcased through regular concerts in addition to annually competing at events including UIL String Orchestra with all five separate groups preforming at UIL and earning sweepstakes with each of them. Along with that, the orchestra program has won numerous awards for outstanding musicianship. One such award was from the Festivals of Music competition, where the orchestra earned top marks. LASA Orchestra also participates in UIL Full Orchestra and Solo and Ensemble, as well as several members qualifying for All-Region Orchestra and All-State Orchestra each year. Many have also earned the outstanding performance award at UIL solo and ensemble as well as earning superior ratings.
Along with entire orchestra opportunities, students also have the option to be part of chamber ensembles, and participate in extra-curricular events. The orchestra program has a partnership with The Austin Chamber Music Center that gives students the opportunity to rehearse in a quartet once a week with a designated coach.
