*** You have 48 hours from the DAY OF ABSENCE to submit your absence form ***
*** Hard copy notes will not longer be accepted ***
Need to review your student's attendance?
Set up notifications for your student’s attendance and grades via Parent Self Serve.
Arriving to Campus Late
Students must check in at the LASA office when they arrive late to campus. They are considered tardy if they arrive before the halfway point of class.
If the student is coming from a doctor’s appointment, please make sure he/she obtains a note from the doctor’s office to excuse the absence or tardy. All you need to do is upload it to the Report an Absence form.
Signing Out a Student
When the parent/guardian is coming to pick up your child for an appointment or other circumstance:
-
Come into the building to sign them out at the Attendance Office or Main Office.
-
Make sure you bring your ID with you (even if you are already in the system). LASA will need to scan your ID in order to sign out your student.
-
We will locate your child and get them to the office. ***
***STUDENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE THEIR PHONES DURING THE SCHOOL DAY. PLEASE DO NOT TEXT YOUR CHILD TO MEET YOU IN THE OFFICE OR OUTSIDE ***
Helpful Tip : To help facilitate signing out your student, if possible, please send a note with your child earlier that day or email a note to Ms. V, stating you will need them to be in the office for pick up at a designated time. The student will need to bring that note to the office and get a temporary pass to get out of class to meet you in the office at an assigned time. This speeds things up immensely.
If someone else will be picking up your student:
-
Make sure that person is on the list to pick up your student. The list is part of your AISD registration information.
-
If the person is not listed on your student's record then LASA will need something in writing from the parent, saying that he/she is giving permission for this person to pick up the student. This person will need to come to the LASA office and show his/her ID to sign out the student.
Your child drives themselves to and from school and needs to leave for an appointment:
-
Send your student with a note, or you can email lasaattendance@austinisd.org saying that you are giving them permission to drive themselves to the appointment. Please provide the student name and what time they will need to leave campus. Please do this day of the appointment to avoid the note/email getting lost.
-
Your student will receive a pink “TEMPORARY” pass that will get them from class to the office to sign out. Signing out is a big must so please remind them to do that.
Student was Absent/Returning Back to Campus
If your child was absent for any reason, please make sure the parent, not the student, fill out the Report an Absence form. Official documentation will be needed to excuse appointments (medical, Immigration, PT, DPS). Any additional documentation can be uploaded to the form.
College Visits
Per AISD policy students are allowed 2 EXCUSED visits per school year. This policy is only for Juniors and Seniors. 9th or 10th graders that decide to do a college visit will not be excused. This doesn’t include travel for the college visit.
- In order for the visit to be excused, a student will need to turn an official note from the school the student is visiting.
- The note needs to be on letterhead, it needs to be dated, and signed by a college official.
- I will not accept email confirmations, flight bookings or visit agendas/itineraries.
90% Rule
In order to receive credit or a final grade for a class, a student is required to attend class 90 percent of the days class is offered regardless of whether the student's absences are excused [see FEA] or unexcused. As a District of Innovation, Austin ISD does have a benefit of exemption to the 90% Rule: The District has the ability to exercise local discretion in awarding credit to students who successfully complete course objectives.
