LASA Senior, Henrik Chan, wins Bronze at IPF Subjunior World Championships in Turkey for Bench Press

LASA senior, Henrik Chan, competed at the IPF Subjunior World Championships in Istanbul, Turkey on 9/4. The IPF is the biggest powerlifting federation. In June, Henrik was selected as part of the USA team for the World competition. The competition goes through the squat, bench, and deadlift, with competitors trying to do the most weight possible in each of those categories. At the World Championships competition, Henrik received a bronze medal in the bench press and also a bronze for the team rankings. WTG, Henrik!

Ballooning Scholarship

Francie Sarrat, class of 2025, applied for and was awarded a scholarship to attend the 2022 Rio Grande Hot Air Balloon Camp in Albuquerque, NM this summer. In addition to writing an essay, she also secured a recommendation from her favorite Geometry teacher, Mr. Word.

US Summer Junior Swimming Nationals

Congratulations to sophomore Zac Hays. He competed in August at the Summer Junior Nationals Swim Championships held in Irvine, CA. Zac swam the anchor on a 4x100 Medley Relay.  Way to go Zac!

LASA Junior, Max Vale, attends 2022 National Security Language Institute-Youth

Max Vale, class of 2024, attended The 2022 National Security Language Institute-Youth (NSLI-Y ) Virtual Summer Institute of Chinese Language and Culture. This prestigious national summer program is funded by the US Department of State and American Councils for International Education. The six-week summer intensive offered class time as well as “home visits” with Chinese families, chats, and film viewing. Max is in Dr. Zhong's Chinese 5 class this year.

Ultimate Frisbee Success!

Members of the LASA Vertikills ultimate frisbee team traveled to Blaine, Minnesota August 5-8 to participate in the 2022 Youth Club Championships.

LASA Debate at the University of Michigan Tournament

LASA Debate beat out the competition after spending seven weeks in Ann Arbor at the University of Michigan. LASA CH (Seniors Sam Church & Alex Huang) won the tournament, going 11-0 at the end of the tournament. In finals, they debated LASA BL (Juniors Eleanor Barrett & Lucy Loehr), the first time a single school has filled up the entire finals debate. Clearly this year is going to be a good one for the raptors!

LASA FBLA competes at National Leadership Conference

Out of thousands of student competitors from around the nation, LASA FBLA students earned 3 top 10 awards at the Future Business Leaders of America, National Leadership Conference in Chicago at the end of June.

Rising Senior, Nisha Vishag, places 5th at HOSA Internationals

LASA rising senior, Nisha Vishag, placed 5th in the Epidemiology event at the 2022 HOSA International Leadership Conference. She represented the Austin ISD at the HOSA Internationals.

LASA Debate Breaks Multiple Records & Earns Multiple National Titles

 LASA debate had the most successful season in school history this year, breaking multiple records and earning multiple national title LASA CH (Juniors Sam Church and Alex Huang) championed 2 national tournaments this year (Grapevine and Meadows), ended a run in the semis of Emory, are the UIL 5A State Champions, and got knocked out in the octafinals of the Tournament of Champions (TOC), making them the first LASA team to EVER win an elimination round at the TOC.
