ASA 10th grader, Astrid Gothard, Writing Piece Accepted into DePaul Blue Book’s National Anthology: Best American High School Writing 2022

Congratulations to Sophomore Astrid Gothard. Her piece, “homeland by,” was accepted into DePaul Blue Book’s National Anthology: Best American High School Writing 2022.

African American Heritage Celebration Award Winners

Last Friday Austin ISD culminated the celebration of Black History Month with their annual African American Heritage Awards. We ar proud to announce that the following LASA students were honored during that celebration for their academic and community achievements.

Japanese Speech Contest Winners

Sci O Success at Golden Gate Invitational

A couple of weeks ago, LASA Science Olympiad traveled to UC Berkeley to compete in the Golden Gate Science Olympiad Invitational. There were 54 teams from across the nation and one international team from Peru in attendance. LASA placed 9th OVERALL and was the highest ranked Texas team in attendance. GGSO is considered a "mini-nationals" and we couldn't be prouder of our students who represented LASA in their events.

Texas Music Teachers Association (TMTA) Piano Winners Advancing to State

Congratulations to Ned Yu and Trevor Yu for their success at the TMTA regional piano competition. Our region is only sending two pianists to State, and they are both from LASA! Way to represent! Best of luck Ned and Trevor!

Regional Science Fair

Congratulations to the students who participated in the Austin Energy Regional Science Fair on their hard work and dedication. Their projects were creative, innovative, and well-researched. It was inspiring to see the tremendous enthusiasm and commitment the students put into their projects, and it was great to see the results of their efforts.

LASA Sophomore, Vivian Prather, wins 2nd at Nengajo Contest!

Congratulations to LASA Sophomore, Vivian Prather, who won second place in the most artistic category of the Nengajo (New Year's card) contest sponsored by the Japan America Society of Dallas/Fort Worth. Her work was chosen from 113 entries!  

LASA Film Students Advance to UIL State with "Earth to You"

LASA Film students have advanced to UIL State with "Earth to You." It will screen on Feb 22 at 6pm at the LBJ Library with all of the State finalists. Full schedule

Scholastic Art and Writing Awards

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are presented by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers. The Alliance is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to identify students with exceptional artistic and literary talent and present their remarkable work to the world through the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. The Awards give students opportunities for recognition, exhibition, publication, and scholarships. Please congratulate all the LASA Winners:

Film students advance to semi-final round for UIL

Congratulations to the cast and crew of the film "Earth to You". They have advanced to the Semi-final round of UIL. 18 films made it to this level, and 5 will be selected to play at the Paramount at the State level.

Erfolg bei Sprachfest

On February 4th 50 students from the LASA German Department competed at Sprachfest. Students from all levels competed in dozens of different events ranging from art projects, musical performance, drama, oral tests, written tests, and a Quiz-Bowl type competition.
