LASA Info Email 5: Crunchtime

Good evening prospective applicant,

You are receiving this email because I think you are applying to LASA. If you have changed your mind and no longer want to apply to LASA, please fill out this form so I can take you off my list.

If you have missed any of the previous info emails, you can find them under Application Updates & Announcements on our website.

The deadline is coming up fast. By 11:59 PM on Friday (1/30/26) all applicants need:

  1. a submitted LASA Application

  2. a submitted program application for 2026-2027 in Enroll Austin

There is a small exception to Enroll Austin due to the winter weather: Parents/guardians who are having issues with Enroll Austin can come to campus on Saturday (1/31/26) and get help from an Enroll Austin specialist to submit the program application.

LASA has a residency requirement.

This means we can’t even look at your application unless you already live in AISD. We do not allow:

  • Renting an apartment for just long enough to get the utility bill

  • Moving if you are accepted

  • Providing proof of residence for an AISD property your family owns but does not live in

Status Updates

Since I lost two work days to the ice, I am very (very) behind where I would like to be at this moment. I am still going through the materials submitted since Friday last week. I am going to try to send out:

  1. An application status emails to all students who had submitted their application by 8 AM yesterday (1/28/26).

  2. A teacher recommendation status email to all other students.

My hope is that I will be able to send those out later this evening, but it depends on how the next couple of hours go, and how often I am interrupted.

Speaking of interruptions: No, I will not respond to individual requests about your application or teacher recommendation status. It slows the whole process down for everyone.

For students who submit(ted) their application any time between 8:01 AM yesterday and 11:59 PM on Friday, I will still reach out and let you know if there are any issues with what you submitted. Likely, this will happen sometime early next week.

LASA Application Status in Enroll Austin

A lot of you have noticed that the status indicators under Next Steps in Enroll Austin are inaccurate.

Image removed.

Upload Documents will show as Incomplete unless you upload something to each possible upload slot. Enroll Austin can’t tell if you have uploaded everything needed for LASA. It can’t tell if what you uploaded is your driver’s license or a picture of a cute cat. (I can though.)

LASA - Liberal Arts and Science Academy

Status: Not Started

Is what everyone will see right now. The status there needs to be updated manually for each individual student, and I am the one who has to do it.

If I get the status emails out as planned, I will turn to that next. The only status options available to me are:

Not Started

Incomplete

Completed

So, as I begin updating this status, I need you to read these options as:

Not Started = Default

Incomplete = In progress

Completed = Everything outside of Enroll Austin has been submitted and student has taken the CogAT

CogAT on Saturday (1/31/26)

An email with more instructions was just sent out from admissions@lasahighschool.org

Info Email 2 also has a section regarding the CogAT.

I just wanted to add, and I cannot believe that I actually have to type these words: Do not come take the CogAT at LASA this Saturday if you are not eligible to apply to LASA!

If you’re not in 8th grade or above - You CANNOT take the test as LASA.

If you do not live in AISD - you CANNOT take the test at LASA.

Due to student safety, parents/guardians cannot come into the school with their students. Our parent organization (PFLASA) is hosting a parent panel (you can read more about it and sign-up here) in the white portable next to the school.

In the same portable, an Enroll Austin specialist from AISD is going to be available to help parents/guardians who are having issues submitting the Round 1 program application in Enroll Austin. (Which, again, ALL students need to have in order for LASA to consider them.)

Enroll Austin

If you haven’t started yet, I suggest you do so today! AISD has provided an Enroll Austin Family Manual to help.

I honestly found the instructions a little dense, so I split them up:

How to Add a Missing or New Student in Enroll Austin

missing = was once enrolled in AISD

new = has never been enrolled in AISD

Also make sure you are clicking the correct button to submit the program application in Enroll Austin. If you only see one school option in Enroll Austin, you’re likely in the wrong place!

Make sure you click the blue start button under 2026-2027 School Year / Program Application

Annual Forms vs Next Steps

Annual Forms are for registration. They are important but not urgent. We will get back to them later.

Next Steps are for the application. Do these now! Under “Upload Documents” the only documents you have to upload for LASA are:

  • Parent ID: Driver’s License (make sure it’s not expired!)

  • Proof of Residence: Mortgage Statement / Lease

    • (if you own your home outright, you can submit the most recent tax bill)

Best of Luck!
