LASA Debate Seniors CH win Baker Award

LASA CH (Seniors Sam Church and Alex Huang) are OFFICIALLY the recipients of the 2022-23 David P. Baker Award for Season-Long Excellence in Policy Debate.

The Baker Award is given to the team who earns the most points based on performance at qualifying tournaments. It is the highest honor a team can receive in high school policy debate and this is the first time LASA has ever won the award.

Winning the Baker was not only the result of hard work on the part of Sam and Alex, but also the combination of endless support from their coaches (Yao Yao Chen, David Kilpatrick, and Arnav Kashyap), their parents, and their incredible teammates who always showed up for them. They are thankful for everyone who helped them get there, and will definitely not be forgetting this incredible achievement.

Alex Huang is the SECOND EVER woman to be awarded this achievement. LASA is the first Texas school to win the award since 2012.

LASA flew to Los Angeles this past weekend to attend the award ceremony, with the physical trophy set to arrive before the end of the year. They attended the preliminary rounds of the NDCA tournament (wipeout!) before heading out.
