Congratulations to Ms. Shontel Willie! This year Ms. Willie was voted by the staff as the LASA Teacher of the Year! We were lucky enough to steal Ms. Willie away from Elgin in 2017 and we couldn’t be happier about it! For those of you who don’t know her, Ms. Willie teaches Advanced Magnet Chemistry and Forensics. She was instrumental in the redesign of the chemistry curriculum and has moved forensics to a more project-based course where her love of literature also comes through as students read books such as “Stiff” or “The Education of a Coroner” and then use a technique called hexagonal thinking to make sense of the scientific connections. Before becoming a teacher, Ms. Willie was a chemist with organizations such as the Environmental Protection Agency and the Texas Department of State Health Services.
See all campus Teachers of the Year.
