Francie Sarrat, class of 2025, applied for and was awarded a scholarship to attend the 2022 Rio Grande Hot Air Balloon Camp in Albuquerque, NM this summer. In addition to writing an essay, she also secured a recommendation from her favorite Geometry teacher, Mr. Word.

During the one-week intensive camp, Francie learned how to determine favorable weather conditions, properly read instruments, and perform all duties to become an official crewmember. She was also in charge of take-off, flight, and landing while operating the burners and vents during her first balloon trip ever.

After returning to Austin, Francie was invited to present to the board members of the Central Texas Ballooning Association and has since been asked to be part of their local crew.
