LASA Info Email 10: The Last Info Email before the Deadline

You are receiving this email because we believe you are intending to apply to LASA. This email is designed to help you make sure you have all of the necessary pieces to submit your LASA application by the deadline at 11:59 PM on Tuesday, February 4, 2024. If you have changed your mind or don’t wish to receive these emails, please fill out this form.

Good afternoon everyone,

This may well be the last info email I send out before the deadline, unless something unforeseen comes up.

For those of you who haven’t submitted the LASA Supplemental Materials google form yet - I believe in you! You’ve got this!

For those of you who have already submitted everything and received the email confirmation that your application is complete - Sit back and relax! You did it! (Actually, you can stop reading this email now. Go do something fun!)

Today I've been working on checking through the materials that were submitted between 8 AM on Thursday and 8 AM today. (Y’all were busy over the weekend!) I won't be able to send out another application status email before the deadline. But that's okay. Y'all know what you have submitted.

Tomorrow, my main goal is to be available for questions and problem solving. When I say questions, I don’t mean “did you receive everything yet?” or “did we get everything right?”

I understand the compulsion to ask and the anxiety that lies behind it. But, in this case, I need you to take a deep breath and trust me.

I will check every submitted application. Yes. Even the ones arriving right at 11:59 PM tomorrow (Tuesday, February 4th). If there are issues, I promise I will let you know and I will let you know how to proceed.

Remember, we want your application to be as good and as complete as you do!

Tomorrow, I can’t spend my time alleviating or reducing anxiety. I simply don’t have enough hours in the day. Y’all still outnumber me in the hundreds! I have to focus on the questions that may keep someone from submitting any part of the application. Hopefully, everyone finished Enroll Austin last week, and took advantage of the last virtual help session to resolve any issues.

I promise everyone* will receive a status email – It may just take me until the end of the week to send them! (And the language post deadline is a little scarier than pre-deadline. Instead of PENDING, it will say MISSING, and so forth.)

*Okay, technically this is a lie. Some students may just receive the confirmation that the application is complete. But, they don’t need the application status, because everything has been received and is all good!

I’ve had questions whether or not LASA throws out applications if a teacher recommendation is missing and I want to reiterate that (given that the supplemental materials form is submitted) there are only two reasons why we would not consider an application:

  1. Enroll Austin is not submitted, or does not rank LASA as one of the schools/programs the student is applying to for the 2025/2026 school year

  2. The student’s primary residence is not in AISD. (The only exception, of course, are for students whose parent/legal guardian works for the district. They can apply no matter where they live.)

In the case of either of the above being true - LASA cannot help you.

But, both of these, you can check yourself if you don’t already know.

If you go back to Enroll Austin, the word “Submitted” will appear under your student’s name and the 2025/2026 School Year. And if you click “view summary” and scroll down, you can double check that LASA is listed. (Visual.)

If it’s submitted and LASA is listed, you can relax. If it says submitted, but the summary doesn’t list LASA, click the edit button and simply add LASA.

As for residence, you know where your student lives. If your anxiety, like mine, is prone to ask questions such as “but what if they changed the AISD boundary over night?” Please know that they didn’t.

But, you’re also free to use the AISD School Finder to look up your address. If your address is not zoned to AISD, the following will appear in red text:

IMPORTANT: The address you entered is not located within our district.”

Families who already received an application status email and were asked to re-submit the creative work or proof of residence may not receive another application status email until after the deadline. I am checking newly submitted materials first and then looping back through the ones who were resubmitted. Likely, you got it right since you had extra instructions on what was wrong.

MOST COMMON REASONS YOU ARE ASKED TO REUPLOAD SOMETHING OR SUBMIT ADDITIONAL MATERIALS:

Creative Work - I am unable to access it. Usually because google’s default for shared links is “restricted”. Students have to change the share settings to “anyone with the link” or we cannot see it.

Proof of Residence

  • The submitted proof of residence is anything other than an electricity/gas bill showing the full first page.

  • I am unable to check all of my address verification boxes with the information we have. In those cases, I usually ask for a lease or mortgage statement. Thank you for providing that extra information if needed so I can move forward quickly.

  • Due to an Enroll Austin glitch (that is absolutely killing me, btw) I am unable to view the uploaded Parent IDs for some applicants in Enroll Austin. They’ve been working on this issue since last week, so they may resolve it this week. (Fingers crossed!)

There is no real rhyme or reason for which applicants are affected. I suggest that if you see several upload spots for Parent ID, you upload the same file showing the front of your driver’s license to all Parent ID spots. That may help alleviate the issue.

Since this is an Enroll Austin issue, this will not negatively impact a student’s application.

Report Card - Doesn’t show all required information. Remember, we need to see:

  • Student name

  • School name

  • Grade level/School Year

  • Course names and grades

  • Correct Grading Cycle

    • Final Year average for last school year

    • Semester 1 average (or equivalent) for this school year

Anything can be kicked back if I can’t read the information. So make sure what you submit isn’t blurry or too small to read!

RESUBMITTING SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIALS FORM

If a student notices they made an error on their supplemental materials form, they have to resubmit the whole thing. We will only consider the last application submitted, so make sure you resubmit it in its entirety. We are not able to take bits and pieces from two submitted supplemental materials forms.

Of course, you can only resubmit the supplemental materials form until the form closes at 11:59 PM tomorrow (Tue, Feb 4).

RANKING IN ENROLL AUSTIN

By the end of tomorrow (Tuesday, February 4) you have to have ranked the schools/programs you are applying to from 1 up to 7. 1 being the school you most want to attend and so forth.

Please make sure you really rank them in the order you most want to attend. If you get into your top choice, you will not be offered admission at a school you ranked lower.

COMMON QUESTIONS

What test scores should I upload?

LASA does not ask for test scores as part of our application. So if you’re only applying to us, you don’t have to upload any. Feel free to leave the spot blank. If you are applying to other schools/programs, please follow their requirements.

Can you check if we submitted everything right?

No. I will reach out if something is amiss.

Can you check if we resubmitted the creative work/proof of residence/report card correctly?

No. I will reach out if something is amiss.

A teacher says they have submitted their recommendation but the status in Enroll Austin still just says “Sent”. What is true?

Under NEXT STEPS, make sure you click the edit button beneath “teacher recommendation” to see the individual status of each recommendation. This is more accurate than the status you can see on the next steps page.

If it still says sent, but you received an application status email where they show as RECEIVED, please trust me and the teacher that the recommendation has been completed.

If it still says sent, not complete, and you haven’t received an application status email or the application status email shows the recommendation as pending, you can email LASAadmissions@austinisd.org with the name of the student and the name of the teacher and I can check it for you.

That’s it for today!

Good luck everyone! If you are anxious about what you have submitted, now is the time to self-soothe. Read through previous info emails and check our Application Checklist again. I bet you’re fine!

See you on the other side of the deadline!

All LASA Info Emails will be available on the Application Updates & Announcements blog within 24 hours of being sent.
