Debate Cannot be beat!

The LASA Debate Team traveled to Atlanta, GA in early February for five consecutive days of competition. They came back with two championships at two of the most important tournaments of the season.

First, seniors Eleanor Barrett and Jack Dollinger won the Justin Wilson Debates at Pace Academy, an invitation-only round robin featuring 7 of the best teams in the country. LASA earned a dominant 11 of 12 ballots and won the Pace Round Robin for a second consecutive season, with Eleanor earning a 2nd place speaker award.

Next, LASA had its best ever performance at the 69th Annual Barkley Forum for High Schools at Emory University, the longest-running speech and debate tournament in the country. Out of a field of 110 teams from 21 states, Eleanor and Jack won the Barkley Forum for the first time in LASA history, with Eleanor earning the top speaker award by the largest margin in tournament history. Eleanor and Jack are now a record-setting 30-2 in elimination rounds and have won every tournament they've attended since mid-October. LASA also placed two other teams in elimination rounds, tied for best in the country. Juniors Bilal Faisal/Sam Low and Christian Bohmer/Anita Sosa reached the double octofinals.
