LASA Teacher of Promise 2022-2023

The Teacher of Promise award is given each year to a first-year teacher that amazes us with their ability to dive right in with getting to know students and be part of the planning team in their preps. This year the LASA Teacher of Promise is Ms. Sophie Pressler. Ms. Pressler teaches Advanced Magnet English 1 and 2.

Ok, so Ms. Pressler is officially a first-year teacher, however, she spent nearly all of last year on the LASA campus. She started out as a student teacher in August and then took over for her mentor teacher, Ms. Gritte, when she went on maternity leave in spring. We were so impressed with Ms. Pressler’s ability to step right in, create relationships with students and make savvy pedagogical decisions, that we knew she was a keeper. Ms. Pressler is a graduate of UT Austin with a BA in English and minors in Journalism and UTeach-Liberal Arts. She enjoys long-form journalistic writing and was the editor of her high school newspaper. As a kid, she used to travel cross-country in an airstream trailer during the summers with her grandfather and little sister. Some places they visited include the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Mount Rushmore, and Devil's Tower. Congratulations, Ms. Pressler! We are so happy you decided to join the LASA family!
